DR. ALEXA ALTMAN / ABOUT

There is something powerful about being witnessed.

My work begins with noticing what is present—and finding language for what has been difficult to name.

A little about me

I’m Dr. Alexa Altman, a licensed clinical psychologist in California with more than two decades of experience in trauma treatment, attachment, and relational healing. My clinical work draws on Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Internal Family Systems-informed approaches, and the relationship itself as a place where new experiences become possible.

A translator of experience

I often think of myself as a translator. I notice patterns, make connections, and help give words to experiences that may be felt before they can be understood. Being witnessed matters to me: the experience of having what was previously unnamed met with curiosity and understood in context.

The work beneath the work

Symptoms and protective responses do not arise in a vacuum. I’m interested in what they have been trying to manage, what the nervous system has learned, and what becomes possible when a person no longer has to meet those experiences alone.
